Lenses

Question will be in here for each faq, click will show dropdownIs the quality of your glasses and lenses the same as a high street optician?

Yes. The quality of the frames and lenses are the same as offered by high street opticians. We use high quality plastic CR39 lenses in all of our glasses and sunglasses.

What are your lenses made of?

Our high quality lenses are made from strong, light-weight plastic. Our standard 1.50 index package includes a scratch resistant coating. Premium, super and elite packages all include a multi anti-reflective coating.

What are your lens packages?
LENS PACKAGE LENS INDEX FEATURES RECOMMENDED
Standard 1.50 Scratch Resistant Coating Prescription sphere values up to +/- 2.00
Premium 1.60 Multi Anti-Reflective Coating (up to 20% thinner than standard package) Prescriptions sphere values up to +/- 3.00
Super 1.67 Multi Anti-Reflective Coating (up to 30% thinner than standard package) Prescription sphere values up to +/- 4.00

What are single vision lenses?

Single vision lenses have one single power over the entire surface of the lens. They are suitable for distance, i.e. driving, watching TV and also for reading or using the computer.

What are bifocal lenses?

Bifocal lenses contain two different prescriptions in the same lens and have a visible dividing line separating the two prescriptions. The upper part is used for seeing at a distance, such as driving and watching TV and the lower part is used for reading.

What are Varifocal lenses?

Varifocal Lenses are ideal for all distances and provide a gradual progression of power on the lens correcting near, distance and intermediate vision without the need of separate pairs of glasses. As there are no visible lines on the lens they are cosmetically more attractive to wear.

What are polarised lenses?

Polarised lenses filter glare that would normally enter your eyes after bouncing off flat surfaces like water, a road or metal. The laminated film is added to the lens to absorb horizontal light rays, while still allowing vertical waves to pass through. All water-sport athletes, golfers, cyclists and runners can all benefit from using sunglasses with polarised lenses. Polarised lenses help an individual obtain accurate information about colour, texture or depth of an object which can reduce fatigue through eyestrain. Polarised lenses can be ordered for both non-prescription and prescription frames.

Benefits of Polarised Lenses
  • Reduce glare
  • Reduce eyestrain and fatigue
  • Improve contrast
  • Increase depth perception
  • Enhance vision clarity
  • Ideal for water sports
  • Perfect for daytime driving

We can provide customers with a full or graduated tint in indexes 1.5, 1.6, 1.67 and 1.74. A member of staff will be more than happy to discuss your requirements and demonstrate all colour options available.

What are Transition lenses?

Transition lenses are clear lenses that adapt to changing light conditions. They are clear lenses indoors and at night but when they are exposed to UV light they quickly change and turn dark. They block 100% of UVA and UVB rays, reduce glare and prevent eye fatigue.

  • Clear indoors and at night

Coatings

What lens coatings do you offer?
COATING ONLINE PRICE
Scratch Resistant FREE
UV Protective FREE
Multi Anti-Reflective* £10

*Included in Premium, Super and Elite Packages online.

Anti-Scratch Coating

A clear coating that is applied to the surface of the lens to help prevent minor scratches. Although no spectacle lenses are scratch proof, the coating will help reduce damage to the surface of the lens that could later impair your vision.

UV Coating

UV coating is an invisible dye that blocks ultraviolet light. Just as sunscreen keeps the sun's UV rays from harming your skin, UV protection for eyeglasses lenses block those same rays from damaging your eyes.

Multi Anti-Reflective coating

Applying an anti-reflective coating will help protect the surface of the lens from scratches, improve your vision and enhance the appearance of your lenses. It will provide better vision for night driving as it will eliminate the reflective glare from on-coming headlights. MAR coating will also eliminate the glare and discomfort from long hours spent on the computer and is highly recommended for all eyeglass lenses. The coating also includes the benefit of UV 400 that helps protect the eyes from harmful damage caused by the sun.

Why are your prices so low?

We do not have the same overhead costs as high street opticians. Our showroom and laboratory are not located on the high street and consequently we avoid the high rental, utility and council charges associated with such locations.
